With a total of 16 years in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), Timo Scheider is considered one of the defining figures of the modern touring car era. Between 2000 and 2016, he competed at the highest level of international motorsport for nearly two decades, developing from a promising young talent into one of the most successful drivers of his generation.
Scheider made his DTM debut in 2000 with the Opel works team. Already in his first season, he impressed with consistently strong performances and multiple top-10 finishes.
After several successful years and important stages of development, as well as a one-year absence from the DTM in 2005 - during which he competed in the FIA GT World Championship and finished as vice world champion - he returned to the series in 2006, this time as an Audi factory driver. His move to Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline marked the beginning of the most successful phase of his career.
two times DTM-Champion
The 2008 season marked his breakthrough:
With three race wins and remarkable consistency, Timo Scheider secured his first DTM drivers’ title. Just one year later, he confirmed his exceptional status in the field by successfully defending the championship in 2009 - an achievement previously accomplished only by DTM legend Bernd Schneider.
This made Scheider a two-time DTM champion and a key figure in Audi’s motorsport history.
Consistency at the Highest Level
Even after his title-winning years, Scheider remained a consistent front-runner over many seasons. Multiple top overall finishes, along with his role as an experienced development and team driver, made him one of the most reliable and respected figures in the DTM field.
After 179 DTM races, Timo Scheider retired from the series at the end of the 2016 season - as a two-time champion, fan favorite, and one of the defining drivers of the modern DTM era.
